Questions, answered properly.

Burning, shipping, returns and the occasional question about why a candle needs to sit in the dark for two weeks.

01

Burning & care

Two to three hours, or until the melted wax reaches the edge of the glass all the way around.

Wax has a memory. If you blow it out before the pool reaches the edge, the candle will keep burning down that same narrower channel for the rest of its life — that’s tunnelling, and it’s almost impossible to reverse. The first burn is the only one that really matters.

Sometimes. Wrap foil loosely around the top of the jar, leaving a gap in the middle, and burn for two hours. The trapped heat can melt the outer ring back down and level the surface.

If it’s tunnelled deeply, you’ll lose some wax. Write to us with a photo — if it’s a wick fault on our side, we’ll replace it.

Trim to about 5 mm before every single burn, once the wax has set.

An untrimmed wick mushrooms, the flame gets too large for the jar, and you get soot on the glass plus a scent that smells burnt rather than clean. It also burns through the candle faster — an untrimmed wick can cost you ten hours of the burn time you paid for.

Four hours maximum, then let it cool for at least two before relighting.

Past four hours the glass gets hot enough to affect the fragrance and the wick starts to drift off-centre. Stop burning altogether once about 10 mm of wax remains at the bottom.

Please do. Pour a little boiling water in to loosen the last of the wax, let it set, lift it out, then wash with warm soapy water.

The vessels are heavy smoked glass — they make good brush pots, small planters or drinking glasses.

02

Fragrance

Because it’s supposed to. Our candles are built like perfumes, in three stages:

  • Top notes are lightest and lift off first — bright, sharp, gone within about twenty minutes.
  • Heart notes take over as the melt pool widens. This is the candle at its truest.
  • Base notes are heaviest and linger, often still there an hour after you’ve blown it out.

A 340 g candle comfortably scents a room of about 200–250 sq ft within fifteen minutes. The 600 g three-wick handles open-plan spaces.

We deliberately don’t over-fragrance. A candle loaded past a certain point smells chemical when hot and can give people headaches — we’d rather it read as a real room than a shop floor.

If you like warm and enveloping, start with Ember & Oud or Amber Vellum. If you want something fresher, Fig & Atlas or Salt & Cypress.

Genuinely unsure? Start with a gift box — it pairs two or three pieces so you can find what suits the room before committing to a large vessel.

We use cotton wicks and phthalate-free fragrance, so there’s no paraffin soot. Gel vessels use a clear gel wax; moulded pieces use a soy blend that holds detail.

That said, some essential oils (particularly citrus and eucalyptus) don’t agree with cats. Burn in a ventilated room and never leave any lit flame unattended around pets or children.

Shipping

Orders are dispatched within 48 hours through Shiprocket. After that:

  • Metro cities — 2 to 4 business days
  • Rest of India — 4 to 7 business days
  • Express — 2 to 3 business days, ₹199

You’ll get a tracking link by email and SMS as soon as the parcel leaves the studio.

Free on orders over ₹1,499. Below that it’s a flat ₹99 anywhere in India. Express is ₹199 regardless of order value. Cash on delivery adds a ₹49 handling fee.

Not yet. Wax has awkward customs and temperature rules that we’d rather solve properly than badly. Join the letter at the bottom of any page and we’ll tell you when it changes.

Coconut-apricot wax softens around 45 °C, so in peak summer a surface can arrive uneven. Leave the candle upright at room temperature overnight and it usually re-levels on its own.

If the surface is still cracked or sunken after that, send us a photo and we’ll reship.

04

Returns

Yes — within 7 days of delivery, as long as it’s unlit and in its original packaging. Write to us and we’ll arrange a pickup.

Once a candle has been burned we can’t resell it, so lit candles aren’t returnable unless something is genuinely wrong with them.

Send a photo to hello@candlealchemist.in within 48 hours of delivery and we’ll reship immediately. No forms, no return pickup, no argument.

If it’s unlit, yes — return it within 7 days under the normal policy.

Scent is personal and hard to judge from a description. If you burned it and it didn’t work for you, tell us which one and why; it genuinely informs what we make next.

We process the refund through Razorpay within 24 hours of the returned parcel reaching us. Your bank then takes 5 to 7 working days to post it. UPI refunds are usually faster.

05

Orders & payment

Everything Razorpay supports: UPI (GPay, PhonePe, Paytm), credit and debit cards including RuPay, netbanking with all major Indian banks, and popular wallets. Cash on delivery is available on select PIN codes for a ₹49 fee.

We never see or store your card details — payment happens inside Razorpay’s secure window.

If it hasn’t been dispatched, yes — email us with your order number and we’ll sort it. Once Shiprocket has picked it up we can’t recall the parcel, but you can refuse delivery or return it unlit under the 7-day policy.

We do, from 25 units up, with custom labels and a choice of scent. Lead time is three to four weeks because of curing — that part we can’t rush for anyone.

Write to hello@candlealchemist.in with quantities and a date.

Yes — soaps first, then a small perfume range built from the same compositions, reworked for skin. Same rule as always: it ships when it’s right, not when it’s ready to sell.
